Apple HomeView Brings Siri AI to a $299 Smart Display, but Siri Ships in Beta and Apple Plans a Fee for Heavier Use

Apple launched HomeView on 13 Oct 2026: a $299 Siri AI smart display shipping 13 Nov, plus a $299 Apple TV 4K and $149 HomePod mini 2. Siri AI is still beta, HomeView skips the EU, and Apple says expanded AI use will carry a fee later.

Apple used its “Welcome Home” launch on 13 October 2026 to put Siri AI inside a screen for the kitchen counter. Apple HomeView is a $299 smart display with a 7-inch Liquid Retina screen, face recognition for up to six people, and Siri AI as its main interface. Pre-orders opened the same day and units ship on 13 November.

It did not arrive alone. Apple also announced a new Apple TV 4K at $299, a HomePod mini 2 at $149, and Apple Home Collection, a set of cameras, thermostats and a door lock built with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

The pitch is a whole home run by a smarter Siri. The footnotes are more careful: Siri AI is still beta on these devices, HomePod mini 2 does not get it at launch, and Apple repeats that heavier use of its server-side AI will cost extra at some point.

What Apple actually launched on 13 October

Four press releases went live on Apple Newsroom around 6:30 PM IST. Here is the lineup with Apple’s US prices and dates.

Product US price Ships Siri AI status
Apple HomeView (tabletop or wall mounted) $299 13 Nov 2026 Beta, HomeView software 27.2
Apple TV 4K (4th generation) $299 13 Nov 2026 Beta, tvOS 27.2
HomePod mini 2 $149 30 Oct 2026 Future free software update
Apple Home Collection (LG, Schneider) $39.95 to $399.95 December, some items early 2027 Controlled through Siri and the Home app

Wall-mounted HomeView needs a separate Schneider Home mount. The USB-C wall connector starts at $59.95, the AC wired mount at $79.95, and a PoE version follows in early 2027 at $129.95.

HomeView is a Siri AI showcase first and a speaker second

HomeView pairs the 7-inch display with a domed speaker base on a tilting stainless steel hinge. Apple says brightness runs from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits.

The bigger idea is personal content on a shared screen. HomeView recognizes up to six people by face and gives each a personal Home Screen. Apple says content from Messages and Calendar only appears when the enrolled person is recognized and their paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and was recently unlocked.

Siri AI is the headline feature. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said HomeView is “powered by Apple Intelligence with Siri AI at its core, drawing on personal context from your iPhone.” Conversations started on HomeView continue in the Siri app on your other Apple devices.

As a smart home dashboard, the Home Camera face can stream up to nine camera feeds at once.

The fine print: beta labels, usage limits and a future fee

This is where the launch gets less shiny. The HomeView footnote says “Siri AI is available in beta in HomeView software version 27.2.” The Apple TV release says the same for tvOS 27.2. On HomePod mini 2, Siri AI is “coming to HomePod mini 2 in a future software update,” with no date.

Every release also carries a line Apple first published with the Siri AI rollout on 14 September: certain Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models “are subject to daily usage limits,” and “expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future.” The September note lists Siri AI by name.

So a $299 device built around Siri AI ships with an assistant that is still in beta, has daily caps on its cloud features, and may need a paid add-on for heavy users later. Apple has not said what that fee is, when it starts, or how low the free limits are.

There is also a dependency on your phone. Siri AI on Apple TV and HomePod mini requires the home owner in the Home app to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Personal context requests on any of these devices need a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device.

Prices went up, and not by a little

Apple’s own history makes the jump easy to see. The 2022 Apple TV 4K launched at a starting price of $129. The new model is $299, or $49.83 a month for six months in the US.

The original HomePod mini launched at $99 in 2020. HomePod mini 2 is $149, a 50% increase, and its main software upgrade has not shipped yet.

For that money, Apple TV 4K gets an A19 chip that Apple says is up to 50% faster on CPU and up to 2x on GPU, an AV1 decoder, three far-field microphones for hands-free Siri, and a Siri Remote with Find My.

Local prices from Apple’s US, Canada, Australia and India newsrooms:

Device USA Canada Australia India
HomeView $299 CAD 429 A$449 INR 39,900
Apple TV 4K (4th gen) $299 CAD 429 A$449 INR 39,900
HomePod mini 2 $149 CAD 199 A$229 INR 18,900

No HomeView for the EU

Apple says plainly that HomeView “is not available for sale in the European Union, as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU.” HomeView pre-orders are open in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK and the US, with Singapore from 15 October and South Africa through resellers.

Siri AI on HomeView and Apple TV works in English only at launch, in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. Canadian French comes later. The EU block fits a pattern: Apple already told users in September that Siri AI would not initially reach iOS in the EU or China.

Apple Home Collection leans on LG and Schneider

The accessories are designed with partners, not built by Apple. LG supplies four cameras (one is a video doorbell), a smart deadbolt, a thermostat and a sensor. Schneider Electric supplies a second thermostat and a room sensor.

The cameras record up to 2.5K, and footage is stored end to end encrypted in iCloud+ for 10 days with no separate camera subscription. The catch is the plan size: Apple’s footnote says the 50GB plan covers one camera, 200GB covers up to five, and 2TB is unlimited.

Prices start at $199.95 for the LG Indoor Cam, $249.95 for the doorbell, $349.95 for the lock and $399.95 for the Floodlight Cam. Most items are listed for the US and Canada, with cameras also in the UK. India and Australia are not on the list.

What it means for Indian developers

India is a launch market this time, which is not always true for Apple’s home products. HomeView, Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 all have INR prices, and Siri AI in English covers India from day one on HomeView and Apple TV.

For app makers, the launch material only promises “compatible third-party audio and video apps” on HomeView. Apple did not announce a separate HomeView developer kit. The practical path is the one Apple already pushes on iPhone: make your app work well with Siri app actions and Apple Intelligence, since Siri AI on these devices leans on the paired iPhone for personal context.

Home Collection skips India, but Apple says HomeView works with other Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories. That leaves room for Indian hardware startups shipping Matter-certified locks, cameras and sensors.

One limit worth testing: Apple TV far-field microphone support lists English but not Hindi or other Indian languages, so Hindi-speaking households may still reach for the remote.

Our read

Apple has built a credible home lineup around Siri AI, with privacy claims backed by Secure Exclaves and Private Cloud Compute. But buyers pay more upfront for an assistant that is still beta, still capped, and may bring a second bill later. Siri AI beta also reaches Apple TV 4K 2nd generation and newer, so existing owners need not rush.
